Not much in San Jose to do after a couple of days. You'll want to head to the coast.

We went to Arenal and stayed at the Nayara Spa and Gardens resort.

Best. Hotel. Ever.

Then did the whole zip lining thing, hot springs thing etc.

Didn't see a fecking toucan anywhere though!

I went to Arenal too and I fucking loved it other than that poxy road to La Fortuna where I wrote off the hire car by looking at the volcanoes instead of the road, put the nearside wheels off the road, luckily steered it back (it was a LONG way down into the gorge) but ripped the sump off.

I DID see Toucans though!

No idea, years ago stayed at the beau vallon beach hotel, there were only 2 hotels on Mahe at the time. Four to things I recall, bird eating spiders living up on the telephone wires crossing the road. Playing golf, hit my ball in the rough walked in to retrieve it and disturbed a load of massive land crabs which came up out the ground. Went to play a fairway shot under a large palm when a coconut dropped about 6” in front, a few been wiped out this way. Opened the balcony door and humming bird came in and hovered in front of me.

Went there in March, amazing country. Went to La Fortuna for a few days, done the zip lining, abseiling down water falls and a river safari - saw crocs, sloths, toucans, monkeys etc.

Then had ten days by the coast in Jaco, if you go that way make sure you stop at the bridge over the tarcoles river, hundreds of crocs below.

I’d go back in a heartbeat. Have a great time

Stayed in Heliconias nature lodge in one of the tree house near La Fortuna. Not too expensive and a good base for the activities

Re: Costa Rica for 2 weeks
do you need much local money or is it mostly us dollars?

Mr Strug 11:03 Mon Sep 2
Re: Costa Rica for 2 weeks
US Dollars were accepted everywhere we visited.

The only local currency we had was the change we were given when paying in dollars
